A Garifuna village on the Caribbean coast of Honduras, 5 km from Tela — and where Garifonda has worked since 1995.
Triunfo de la Cruz is a Garifuna village set on the Caribbean coast of Honduras, just minutes from Tela — one of the most authentic spots on the Atlantic coast. There's no tourist-built waterfront here: life revolves around fishing, coconut palms, and the punta music that drifts out of houses some evenings.
This is the village where Garifonda has worked since 1995, up close with families rather than from a distance. The association works with residents, not for them.
Small-scale fishing remains the main activity, alongside a human-scale tourism that's slowly developing. The Garifuna language, dance, and music — everywhere in Triunfo de la Cruz — were inscribed in 2001 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Local crafts, items made from recycled materials, creations by the Garifuna community — a souvenir with meaning instead of a fridge magnet, and a purchase that stays in the village instead of leaving with you.
